Features

Valspar® PVA Primer is specially formulated for the needs of the Pro painter. Our PVA primer effectively seals porous surfaces preparing them for any architectural topcoat. Valspar PVA Primer can be used over bare or previously painted drywall, plaster, wood, and masonry. Due to its great flow and leveling properties Valspar PVA primer can be brushed, rolled, or sprayed with ease.

Coverage

Covers up to 250 - 350 sq. ft. per gallon.

Where to Use

Read the Lead Warning in Cautions section. Clean and dry surface thoroughly, removing all dirt, dust, rust, grease and wax. Scrape off loose or peeling paint. Remove glue, shellac and sizing. Patch cracks and spot-prime. Dull glossy surfaces with gloss remover or sandpaper.

Preparing the Surface

Thoroughly clean the surface and allow to dry. Remove wallpaper and loose, peeling paint. Patch cracks and spot prime. Dull glossy surfaces. Prime new wallboard with latex wall primer. Prime new wood with enamel undercoater or latex wall primer.

Application

Use a paint paddle or mixing blade to stir primer thoroughly. Apply only when primer, surface and air temperatures are 50-90°F (10-32°C) during application and drying time. For airless spray, thin with up to 8 oz. water per gallon, only if paint is too thick for sprayer.

Dry Time

Dries to the touch in 30-60 minutes. Paint only when surface and air temperatures are 50-90°F (10-32°C). Recoat in 3-4 hours.

Lead Warning

WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop.
